Crochet circle increase calculator
Round-by-round instructions for a flat circle, the base of most amigurumi, hats and coasters. Choose the starting stitches and how many rounds you want.
How it works
A flat circle grows by the same number of stitches every round. With 6 in the ring, round 2 increases in every stitch (12), round 3 works 1 stitch then an increase all round (18), round 4 works 2 then an increase (24), and so on. Round n has 6 × n stitches.
"inc" means 2 stitches in the same stitch. With staggering on, odd rounds start part-way through a section so the increases don't stack into corners.
Questions people ask
How many stitches does each round add?
The same number you start with. Starting with 6 stitches in a magic ring gives 6, 12, 18, 24 and so on, so round n has 6 × n stitches.
Why stagger the increases?
If every increase sits straight above the one below, the circle can form corners and look like a hexagon. Staggering moves the increases half a section along on alternate rounds, so the edge stays rounder.
How big will my circle be?
That depends on your yarn, hook and tension. If you enter how many rounds you get in 10 cm, the calculator gives an estimated diameter of about 2 × rounds × the height of one round.
